Plan charging around the packs you need ready.
A supported family, a second bay and simultaneous charging answer different questions. Start with exact battery models.
List the tool and battery models you already own, how many packs each operation requires, and which packs must be ready together. Then check the charger’s supported batteries and local mains requirements. A wider voltage label or familiar brand name does not connect separate battery systems. A charger-only record supplies no spare battery to fill a gap in that inventory.
Keep supported families separate from charging sequence. Milwaukee 48-59-1812 supports documented M12 and M18 batteries and charges them sequentially. That makes it useful for researching charging across both Milwaukee families, but it does not turn an M12 pack into M18 tool power or charge both packs at once. Match the exact charger model rather than transferring a feature from another multi-bay product.
Makita DC18RD instead documents two supported LXT packs charging simultaneously. That can address a different readiness requirement: for example, the two-pack XSH06Z saw requires two supported 18V LXT packs together. DC18RC remains another LXT charger to investigate when you do not need DC18RD’s documented two-pack arrangement. Decide what a second charging position solves in your routine before treating more bays as a performance upgrade.
Read status indications and the full process, too. Bosch GAL18V-40 lists battery-status and error indications and describes its fast-charge and long-life stages. Its 4 A label is a charging-current specification, not a fixed time for every supported battery. DEWALT DCB1104 separately documents its supported 12V MAX, 20V MAX and FLEXVOLT families. The two brands’ 4 A labels do not establish cross-brand compatibility or identical charging behavior.
Save the exact charger and pack combination, then use the manufacturer’s instructions for placement, charging conditions and status messages. Compare charger-only packages with a kit only after counting the batteries and charger actually supplied. This guide does not calculate charge time from Ah divided by amps, guarantee uninterrupted work, or assign a tested battery-life benefit to a faster charger.
