Choose the router base and bit before the package.
A matching collet is one requirement. Base configuration, speed, power and included guides still need separate checks.
Describe the intended cut first: the material, edge or surface operation, cutter and way the work will be held. Then check the bit and router instructions for the supported combination. A matching shank diameter is a necessary screening detail, but it does not establish that every cutter of that shank size is suitable for the tool, base and operating speed.
Compare the package around the base you need. Bosch GKF18V-25N includes a fixed base and lists its compatible plunge base separately. The corded GKF125CEK also supplies a fixed base, with its own listed optional plunge base. Keep the exact accessory model from each product reference; the word Colt does not make every base interchangeable. A fixed-base package photo should not become a promise of plunge capability in the supplied box.
Keep power requirements separate from accessory fit. GKF18V-25N uses supported Bosch 18V power, GKF125CEK is a 120V corded kit, PCL424B uses RYOBI ONE+, and R860444B uses RIDGID 18V. An existing compatible setup can narrow your list, while a corded option makes the available mains supply and cord arrangement part of the decision. Their shared 1/4 in collet size does not connect these battery systems.
Look at what the exact box supplies for guidance and dust collection. Bosch’s cordless example lists guides and routing dust hoods; its corded kit lists a straight-edge guide and case. PCL424B lists a wrench and vacuum dust chute. Use those lists to identify missing pieces for the job, then check any proposed hose or adapter against its own instructions. A supplied dust accessory alone does not establish that your vacuum connects or supports the material.
Finish with a short record of the required bit, permitted speed, base, power source and any missing guidance or collection accessories. Save the exact candidate models and compare documented fields. Unlisted specifications remain research questions. This guide uses manufacturer references and practical selection questions; it does not rank cut quality, ease of adjustment or comfort from hands-on testing.
