Impact driver or impact wrench?

Look at the tool holder first: hex bits and square-drive sockets solve different fastening jobs.

The Milwaukee 2953-20 and Makita XDT19Z use a 1/4-inch hex holder. The Milwaukee 2967-20 and DEWALT DCF900B instead use a 1/2-inch square anvil for sockets. Start with the fastener, accessory and access you need, then compare the correct tool category.

Do not turn headline torque into a universal ranking. Manufacturers may distinguish fastening from breakaway torque and tie results to a particular battery. Milwaukee’s 2967-20 page names FORGE battery conditions for its maximum figures. Follow the tool and fastener instructions; a control mode is not a substitute for the specified final torque procedure.

A useful shortlist starts with your actual accessories. Record the bit or socket interface, then check the tool’s allowed applications and the accessory manufacturer’s requirements. An adapter changes the connection; it does not make two tool categories equivalent or establish that a particular combination is suitable for the job.

After choosing the category, compare the complete setup you will hold: tool, battery and accessory. A published bare-tool length cannot tell you how much room a long socket needs, and a product photograph cannot prove access around an obstruction. Use dimensions to screen candidates and verify the critical clearance before buying.

Finally, compare packages within that shortlist. A familiar platform and useful accessories may matter more to your purchase than a larger advertised number. The catalog’s model records help keep those decisions separate; they are manufacturer-based references, not the results of a fastening or durability test.
