Choose an impact wrench around access and control.

Start with the fastener, socket and available space. Then compare retention, controls and the supported battery pairing.

Describe the intended fastening job before choosing a wrench. Record the fastener specification, the socket you need, the room around the work, and how final tightening will be checked. Removing a fastener and tightening it to a required specification are different decision points. A manufacturer’s high-torque label alone does not tell you whether a tool, socket and battery combination suits either operation.

Keep the interface visible. The catalog examples Makita XWT14Z, DEWALT DCF891B and DCF900B use a 1/2 in square drive. That is a different connection from the 1/4 in hex holder on an impact driver. Compare sockets and extensions against the exact tool manual and the accessory manufacturer’s intended use; a physically fitting adapter is not evidence that every combination is supported.

Use a same-platform shortlist when you already own supported batteries. DCF891B is DEWALT’s mid-range wrench and DCF900B is its high-torque option; both catalog packages omit a battery and charger. Comparing them keeps the platform question steady while you investigate their controls and physical configuration. These are manufacturer product categories, not a Tool Drip ranking or a claim that either wins your particular task.

Check the whole assembly for access. XWT14Z has a listed 5-5/8 in tool length and a friction-ring anvil, while the two DEWALT examples use hog-ring retention. Consider the chosen socket, extension and installed battery as well as the tool body. The catalog length is a screening reference; it does not establish clearance for the complete arrangement or prescribe an accessory for a tight location.

Read how each control mode behaves before relying on it. DCF891B includes four modes and a Precision Wrench control intended to help manage overtightening and reverse run-off. A control feature is not a measurement of the final fastener torque. When the procedure calls for measured tightening, use the appropriate measuring tool and required procedure. TEKTON TRQ52402 is a separate manual torque-wrench example with a published 40–200 ft-lb range, which still needs matching to the required value and direction.

Before following a seller link, keep the exact tool suffix, supported battery, socket interface, retention type and required control behavior together in your notes. Check the current manufacturer documentation for any performance test conditions rather than comparing isolated headline torque numbers. The aim is a defensible shortlist for your job, not the largest number or an assumed vehicle-specific recommendation.
