Own a battery already? Choose the next missing capability.
Use an existing DEWALT setup as a worked example, with separate branches for drilling, sanding, cleanup and socket fastening.
Inventory the exact battery and charger first, then name the task your current tools cannot handle. An existing platform can narrow the research, but it does not prove that a new tool is useful or supported by every pack. Check the current manufacturer instructions for the proposed pairing. Keep any missing accessories on the same list as the tool so the bare-tool package does not hide the rest of the setup.
For an owner researching the DEWALT 20V MAX system, the catalog offers several distinct branches. DCD800B is a drill/driver with a 1/2 in chuck. DCF891B is a 1/2 in square-drive impact wrench for supported socket-based applications. Their shared battery family does not make the accessories or intended tasks interchangeable. Choose between those roles before comparing speed, controls or package extras.
If the recurring gap is surface preparation, investigate DCW210B as a random orbital sander. Its documented pad uses 5 in, eight-hole hook-and-loop sanding discs, and its Type 2 manual excludes drywall applications. Check the abrasive, material, dust-collection arrangement and operating instructions as part of the purchase. Adding a sander creates a different capability from adding another drill; it still requires the right consumables and setup, rather than the battery alone.
If the gap is compatible dry cleanup, investigate DCV501HB. DEWALT identifies it as a dry-only hand vacuum with an extension and cleaning accessories. It is not a wet/dry vacuum. Its HEPA filter description does not, by itself, establish that the complete setup is suitable for every hazardous material or dust-control requirement. Use the manual to decide whether it supports the debris and operation you intend.
All four exact model records in this example omit a battery and charger. That makes them useful candidates for an existing-power inventory check, without proving a lower total cost or a particular runtime. Check whether your supported battery will be available when the task occurs, whether another tool needs it at the same time, and whether the manufacturer specifies a particular pairing for claims you care about.
Keep one or two candidates for the actual missing role, then return to the seller with the full model number and required accessories. If you own another platform, use the same process with its documented models rather than treating the DEWALT examples as cross-brand substitutes. This is a way to build on equipment you already own; it is not a reason to buy all four branches or a claim that the catalog is a complete platform lineup.
